The Firm |
Welcome to Kéisén
Associates

"Kéisén"
means
an "inexhaustible spring"
in
Japanese
as we hope to
become a wellspring
of legal solutions
for all matters relating
to Japanese intellectual property law.
|
Kéisén
Associates, formerly Omori & Yaguchi, is a Tokyo-based
Japanese intellectual property law firm
with offices in Tokyo, Osaka and Philadelphia, Pa. Our practice
offers a broad range of Japanese and international legal support
in patent, design, and trademark law. We offer prior art search,
in-house technical translations, international licensing, as
well as legal
consultation for international business development and technology transfer
support in Japan.
Our highly skilled
attorneys and patent agents are supported by a team of technical advisors,
translators and an administrative staff who are fluent in
English. We can provide clients with
a seamless, efficient, and
cost effective service in all areas intellectual property protection
in Japan.

The Kéisén
Advantage
No matter
how highly developed means of communication have become,
there still exists the hurdles of time, language and
cultural barriers which get in the way of a smooth
patent and trademark prosecution in Japan. The typical
complaints we hear from clients are the inability to
communicate directly with Japanese legal counsel, the
difficulty in evaluating quality of work of the Japanese
associates, inconsistencies in the quality of
translations, slow response time, and the high cost of
communication, among others. |
 |
In view of this
situation, Kéisén's
previous incarnation, Omori & Yaguchi, founded Omori & Yaguchi
U.S.A. in Philadelphia in 2000, which gives us several strategic
advantages.
Our Philadelphia
office has registered
Japanese patent attorneys, U.S. patent attorneys, as well as
U.S. patent agents. By being in the same time zone as our East
coast clients, we are able to meet regularly to discuss clients' inventions and IP
strategies that is so crucial in the process of creating a high
level of specifications. In addition, our lawyers have intricate
knowledge of the Japanese IP business, and can assist in person
with legal aspects of developing markets in Japan, including
licensing, franchising, and other matters related to
intellectual property rights.
Our Tokyo and
Philadelphia offices work cooperatively, and often
simultaneously, for an around-the-clock prosecution
and litigation service for our clients. In order to
facilitate better communication between our two
companies, we not only conduct regular television
conferences, but frequently fly our staff to and
from Japan. |
Our Offices
 |
-
Tokyo Tokyo serves as Keisen Associates' main office. In May 2006, we
moved to our new location in the Chida-ward, a stone's throw
from the Imperial Palace, the British Embassy, and several government institutions,
such as the Diet. Its location provides several
strategic benefits as well. The office is a short distance to
the Supreme Court and the Tokyo High Court, where all of the district court patent
litigation cases are heard. It is also close to the
Japan Patent Office enabling our lawyers to have frequent exchanges with JPO
officials at every stage of patent and trademark
prosecution. The Tokyo office is involved in all aspects
of IP prosecution and litigation in Japan.

Osaka
Osaka is a commercial and industrial center
of Japan defined as the second-largest economic
center in the country. It alone produces
approximately 2% of the world's GNP, and some thirty
out of the top 500 corporations in the world are
based here. Our Osaka office is a block from the
district court in the heart of the commercial center
of the city. The office is involved in the
litigation portion of our service.

-
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Our U.S. office is in historical
Philadelphia - the fifth largest city in the
United States. Our location brings us close to many of our
clients in the pharmaceutical and biomedical
industries and allows us to tap into the wealth of
resources offered by the university and research
institutions in the area. The office's mission is to
provide a "one-stop" filing service for all our
non-Japanese clients' prosecution and litigation needs
in Japan.
