Indonesia’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) and Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property in Thailand (DIP) are extending their Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) trial arrangements with the Japan Patent Office 3 years and 2 years, respectively, from the start of 2024.[1,2] (For PPH with Indonesia, from 2024 the requirement to request PPH prosecution within 6 months of publication has been removed, making the process more available.[1])
Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand stand to benefit from continuing partnership in prosecuting IP smoothly, and Patent Prosecution Highway (external link to JPO page) can be a great way to do that. Do not miss opportunities to file patent applications in Japan with faster results through accelerated examinations!
Indonesia and Thailand, with populations of about 280 million and 70 million, respectively[3,4], engage in much commerce with Japan. Their factories supply Japanese consumers plenty, too. Indonesia is ranked 39th worldwide for patent applications, and Thailand, 41st.[5,6]
