Technical Advisor (Patents) (Bilingual), Omori and Yaguchi USA LLC, Phila., PA

Conduct patent prosecution work, including consultations with U.S. clients pursuing patent applications in Japan and consultations with Japanese clients pursuing patent applications in the United States. Assist patent attorneys in the U.S. and Japan with preparation and prosecution of patent, trademark, and design patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and Japanese authorities, including technical writing and translations. Review intellectual property and technical terms, in both the English and Japanese languages, and perform necessary translations (including technical translations) between the two languages. Prepare amendments to patent applications and arguments against adverse determinations issued by Patent Examiners in the U.S. and Japan. Conduct patent validity research and patent infringement research, and identify pertinent prior art. Substantial, daily written and oral communications in Japanese language concerning foregoing highly technical matters. Employer is a Japanese-American patent law firm. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Technical or scientific field such as chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, computer science, botany or other technology fields; 5 years experience as Technical Advisor, Patent Engineer; Experience must have been in the field or position involving patents. High level translating skills in both English and Japanese and Japanese to English of highly technical matters. Extensive knowledge in field of intellectual property in Japan and the United States. Maintaining state-of-the knowledge of government regulations in Japan and the United States relating to patent law and procedures. Demonstrated researching skills to investigate the status and records of patents and researching related cases, laws and legal articles in web sites of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Japanese Patent Office (JPO) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
